Restoring a TPLINK router to Original Firmware

If you have played around with OpenWRT DDWrt or other derivatives like Funnelweb or similar downloads
see http://ofmodemsandmen.com/downloadsf.html

You might reach a point where it would be handy to restore the router to its original TPlink firmware.

In my case made a configuration which worked to relay from one router to a new subnet using WPA. Unfortunately when switched off the connection had to be redone manually on next use.

I was uncertain reading various pages in the Wiki and on Forums whether removal of the boot part of the file was necessary for this particular file and with the web interface which I had installed.

I decided to risk this a direct upgrade using the file downloaded from

http://www.tp-link.com.au/support/download/?model=TL-MR3420&version=V2

mr3420v2_en_3_15_9_up_boot(140912).bin

However this produced an error that the file was not the correct type.

Further research brought me to this page

http://www.friedzombie.com/tplink-stripped-firmware/

Downloading the stripped file from here worked straight away.
So you do need a stripped file and you can use the web interface
instead of putty and WinSCP if its available.

Thanks to friedzombie for providing this resource.

Folk Festivals in Cheshire

Local Folk Festivals Warrington and North Cheshire.

We are particularly fortunate in this area to have some very good local folk events listed here in chronological order..

These are put on by a number of good organisers who work tirelessly and enthusiastically to put these on.

Shanty Festival.

Now established as a yearly event over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

An opportunity to listen to and join in with some of the best national and international singers of sea songs. Strongly supported by local performers.

Chester Folk Festival

Took place in the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend 2013. An established yearly event with 3 or 4 main venues an a number of free entry events and singarounds at various points throughout the weekend. Look here for more details of 2014 years festival. http://www.brightbell.com/chester-folk-festival/ and of course te festival website at www.chesterfolk.org.uk

Wirral Folk Festival ~ Folk on The Coast

Having changed venue a couple of years ago to the fantastic amenities of the Ellesmere Port Whitby Sports and Social Club the Festival grows from strength to strength. We particularly enjoyed the Friday evening concert and the Sunday afternoon and evening. The Sunday afternoon was spent in the residents bar with a rolling program of singers and bands starting with the Chester City Ukelele players singing songs everyone knows to include Folk and Roll from the Cheesecutters to mention a couple.

The evening concert was a worthy climax of the whole event with great music from Joe Topping, Miranda Sykes & Rex Preston, Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar and The Poozies

For a review of the festival see http://wirralfolkonthecoast.com/Review-2014.html

Lymm Festival ~ Folk Club Events

I hadn’t seen the Houghton Weavers for many years but they gave a terrific performance to a packed room in The Spread Eagle in Lymm Village following on from the food festivakl in the main street. It was great to see them perform in a folk club scenario and the atmosphere was electric.

The songwriting and singers competition sets this festival apart and makes it a must for seasoned performers in the area.

Ron Trueman Border is an excellant songwriter who judged the competition as well as providing a super performance on the Sunday.

For full details see:

http://www.lymmfolkclub.org.uk/lymmfest2014.html

Well with all this over for another year we will have to wait for

next time but it certainly is a great start to the summer. Or maybe not folk club events continue weekly throughout the year so come n down.

The DVRTR 3

Advances in Digital Radio

Digital Radio systems continue to advance at a rapid rate.

Icoms Dstar based on the JARL standard developed from work by Satoshi Yasuda 7M3TJZ has been operational since 2004 and has gradually been taken up maimly as a mobile mode for repeater use. It is in fact the use of network linking between different repeaters r repeater groups where many of the advantages lie.

There have been other implementations of Dstar such as Dongles and hotspots and the implementations of D star using the raspberry pi have proved fairly popular.

A number of Dstar implementations such as Dutchstar, DVRPTR1 and DVRPTR also have their followings for those which like to take a look under the hood or are looking for an alternative to Icom gear.

Now though with the introduction of Mototrbo into the amateur market there are signs that interest is beginning to heat up.

Connect systems have now announced the introduction of a combined D-Star and Mototrbo compatible radio which will be introduced later this year and will be called the CS 7000.

For more details here is a Youtube video from Ham Radio Now which tells of developments in various forms of digital voice.
You can also follow progress at the rapidly expanding Yahoo group CS7000.
