Folk Festivals in Cheshire

Local Folk Festivals Warrington and North Cheshire.

We are particularly fortunate in this area to have some very good local folk events listed here in chronological order..

These are put on by a number of good organisers who work tirelessly and enthusiastically to put these on.

Shanty Festival.

Now established as a yearly event over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

An opportunity to listen to and join in with some of the best national and international singers of sea songs. Strongly supported by local performers.

Wirral Folk Festival ~ Folk on The Coast

Having changed venue a couple of years ago to the fantastic amenities of the Ellesmere Port Whitby Sports and Social Club the Festival grows from strength to strength. We particularly enjoyed the Friday evening concert and the Sunday afternoon and evening. The Sunday afternoon was spent in the residents bar with a rolling program of singers and bands starting with the Chester City Ukelele players singing songs everyone knows to include Folk and Roll from the Cheesecutters to mention a couple.

The evening concert was a worthy climax of the whole event with great music from Joe Topping, Miranda Sykes & Rex Preston, Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar and The Poozies

Lymm Festival ~ Folk Club Events

I hadn’t seen the Houghton Weavers for many years but they gave a terrific performance to a packed room in The Spread Eagle in Lymm Village following on from the food festivakl in the main street. It was great to see them perform in a folk club scenario and the atmosphere was electric.

The songwriting and singers competition sets this festival apart and makes it a must for seasoned performers in the area.

Ron Trueman Border is an excellant songwriter who judged the competition as well as providing a super performance on the Sunday.
